Bindu

ree

Bindu is a Sanskrit term directly translated as "point’"or "dot." Bindu has a rich variety of meaning depending on the context, but it is primarily regarded in Indian religions and philosophies as the point from which all creation begins and is ultimately unified.

Bindu is understood as an expression of the highest consciousness, symbolic of both Shiva and Shakti, the source of creation and divine feminine energy respectively. Bindu may also refer to the silent point that is the source of all sacred sound.

Circle or dots in Art

The circle is considered a symbol of unity, because all the regular polygons are embraced by the circle. It is also the symbol of infinity, without beginning or end, perfect, the ultimate geometric symbol.

Circle as a basic shape has always enchanted the human mind. Many mathematicians and philosophers considered it the most perfect of all geometric shapes, while theologians felt it supernatural or divine. For the artist the mysterious circle is always a thing of beauty and a joy forever. For them the mystery element combined with the aesthetic one, producing varied meanings in various semiotic conventions. Circles appear in paintings either as a circles themselves or as their derivatives such as the sun, the moon and other stellar orbs, as wheels, sundials, clock faces, as domes, vaults, spiral stairs, circular paths and what not.
